Blacksmith, I do have some details. I tried to view this on the Manchester site and it was marginal at best. But I can summarize with this: We held Manchester pretty close the entire game, we were actually ahead late in the game for a short period of time. I did see some visions of the "old" Heaves team that could make things happen. I really like Brandon Cotton, Juwan Bailey, Ross Demasi, Stephen McDowell (new PG), Troy Jackson and Markus Austin. I am really worried about Jared Carter and Dlancy Carter, our two big men. Personally, I think the magic formula is the 6 guys I mentioned plus Aaron Cook and Benson Callier. I am going to keep saying this until it happens: Bring back Benson!!!!

From the Millrats press release...
January 3, 2009 Manchester, NH: The Manchester Millrats opened the regular season with a 102-93 victory over the Vemont Frost Heaves, putting on a show for the fans who braved the snowy weather outside.
Manchester jumped out early and captured a 31-22 lead after the first quarter and carried a 43-35 lead into the intermission.
Vermont closed the lead with it's efficient offense, cutting the Manchester lead to 70-67 with 8:40 remaining in the third quarter. Alexus Foy;e's three pointer, followed by a steal and lay in by Marlowe Currie, pushed the lead back to to eight at 75-67. A quick shot by Vermont led to a breakout and two handed slam by Foyle and a new double digit lead, 77-67.
The Frost Heaves responded with an 8-0 run, cutting the lead back to two. Al Stewart's jumper in the lane barely beat the shot clock, making the score 79-75.
The two teams went nip and tuck througout the end of the third and deep into the fourth quarter. David Cooper's three pointer, his second of the game, sealed the win for the Millrats, pushing the lead to an insurmountable 97-89 with under a minute remaining.
"It was great to win our home opener, the crowd was pumped up and really into the game," stated Millrats forward David Cooper, also a part owner of the team.
The Manchester offense featured a balanced scoring attack with five Millrats scoring in double figures. Dwight Brewington led the Millrats with 19 points while Anthony Anderson and Marlowe Currie added 15 apiece. Stanley Ocitti contributed 11 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Lou McCroskey also chipped in with 10 points. Vermont was led by 22 points from newcomer Stephen McDowell.
With the win Manchester begins its quest for a 2009-2010 Premier Basketball League championship with a 1-0 start, while the Frost Heaves drop to 0-1

We played better than last Tuesday, but our foul shooting, passing and ball handling hurt us a bit. Our two new guys, Stephen McDowell and Marshall played well, although we were not totally in sync because of needing to work with new people. Markus played very well as did Brandon Cotton and Brandon Ball. We stayed with Manchester throughout the game, but couldn't make the key stops at the end. Unfortunately, Manchester seemed to have an open lane to the basket at critical moments.
The NH crowd was small (only one side of the gym bleachers were open) and there was plenty of room. For those of you who've traveled to Millrats games in the past, the rat mascot was not there nor were the dancing girls. It looked like Manchester was on a tighter budget this year. About 15 Vermont fans made the trip.
Our guys made some progress since last Tuesday, but with their guard play and ability to score from the outside/inside on us, Manchester will be tough to beat.

I also should've included Ross Demasi in my post. Ross was awesome. He's not afraid to fight for position for a rebound or to take the layup in traffic to draw the foul. Ross is a key player for us inside at this juncture. The only negative I saw was foul shooting...he missed 5 consecutive free throw. During the 3rd quarter we were in the bonus situation very early and had a lot of trips to the free throw line, but we missed alot. Nonetheless, Ross is one of our real assets on the team.

I have to agree with Dogrivers analysis of the game. Manchester does seem to have cut back on the hopla, just wish their fans could find their own noise makers, instead of grabbing cow bells, but obviously they must be good.
Was an exciting game, mistakes cost us this game. We did improve and will continue to improve.
Bring back T Green.
