Vermont Defeats Halifax
02/28/2010 05:55 PM
Burlington, Vt - the Vermont Frost Heaves defeated the Halifax Rainmen 111 - 105 thus afternoon in Overtime.\\Matt Hall's 2 free throws with 3.7 seconds left tied the game at 93 and Halifax's 3 point attempt at the buzzer came up short.
The Rainmen led after the first quarter 27 - 21 after a slow start by both teams but\\Vermont fought back and ended up leading 48 - 43 at the half.\\Vermont led after 3 quarters and Halifax came out in the 4th and took command of the game.\\Cold free throw shooting seemed to be Halifax' achilles heel and that allowed Vermont to get back in to the game.
Halifax was led in scoring by Tony Bennett with 28 points followed by Eric Crookshank with 23 and Gary Ervin with 19 points.\\Halifax shot 14-34 from the charity stripe,
Vermont had 6 players in double figures led by Dwuan Rice with 19 points, Aaron Cook with 18 and Juwan Bailey with 17 points.\\Marshall brown had 12 points and Al Stewart popped in 11.\\
The Frost Heaves next home game is Friday night March 5, in Burlington when the Lawton Fort Sill Cavalry invade Burlington.\\Game time is 7:05 p.m.

There are only two other games in Burlington. Saturday, March 6 which can't change because of the high school tourney at the Aud and Saturday, March 27 against Maryland. I'm guessing the answer Racnprincess is "not likely".
We're still 4 games out of playoff contention behind Rochester. Puerto Rico lost to Oklahoma Sunday. What we need for help is some of us in the lower half of the standings (Manchester, Quebec and Maryland) to win some games against Puerto Rico, OK, Rochester, and Halifax or we're not gonna close the distance. We only have 2 head to head games with the top 4 left on our schedule - Friday vs OK and April 2 vs Halifax.
If we play like we did yesterday, win the games we're supposed to win, we've got a chance. It'll be interesting to see how we go after OK - they crushed us during an ice storm last month in Lawton. It was brutal - both game and storm.
GO HEAVES!

The BIG snow a week or so ago caused several HS games to be canceled. I am sure they are playing HS ball at the Barre Aud this weekend; its just that the billboard has not been updated....
I'd like to blame the mayor, but not on this.

On another topic regarding our victory over Halifax I'd like to say that it appears that Halifax has stolen the Millrats raunchy, radical, unreasonable style of play. (the MRats seem reformed). Halifax did everything except throw punches to hold back our defense and offense. They grabbed and held shirts, hugged bodies, twisted arms and generally acted like last year's millrats. Very foul play by Halifax. I am so pleased we rose to the top.
