(Halifax, N.S.) Halifax Rainmen CEO and President Andre Levingston is deeply saddened by the passing of the team’s Director of Basketball development John Strickland. The 38-year old Brooklyn, NY native was found dead yesterday. It is believed he died in his sleep.
“I was devastated to hear that “Strick” passed away. He was a valuable asset to the team and an incredible friend to me. I want to extend my deepest sympathies to his family, we will all miss him very, very, much.”
Strickland played in the 2008/09 and 2009/10 Rainmen seasons as a forward, and was recently promoted to the team’s Director of Basketball Development. Strickland was known for his comedic antics on the court and never failed to please fans with his enthusiasm for the game and for Halifax.
Strickland’s energy and basketball skills became a staple of every game. “The fans would go wild every time Strick hit the court. He always had his own cheering section. His unique abilities gave so much to the team, and our organization won’t be the same without him,” said Levingston.
Strickland played professionally around the world for more than 15 years. Besides playing in various United States minor leagues, he made stops in Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Korea, Argentina, France, Italy, Portugal and Serbia.
“The Rainmen organization will organize a tribute to Strickland in the near future. Levingston will be available for individual interviews upon request
