Maybe Chris from Halifax can tell us what the situation is like in terms of the H. Team and returning members. We KNOW the millrats have been mowing lawns and sipping wine coolers together all summer on Nantuckett Island.

Actually, I believe the millrats have lost a few of their key players.
Desmond Ferguson - Halifax Sam Carey - overseas Marlo Curry ? - Overseas
Should be interesting.

I think that Vegas was originally part of pre-season for Halifax and the Heaves have replaced them as far as the preseason for the Rainmen.
I actually think the Rainmen will be tougher to beat than the Millrats this season. They have their basic core of players returning from last season and Ferguson makes them a whole lot better.

I don't think that Halifax will be anything for the Heaves to worry about. They do not have Rob Sanders to start the year as they did last year. I also think that they have a couple of players that are pretty old. A couple of there starters will be Strickland (about 38) and Ferguson (about 34). I think the teams to worry about are Maryland and Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico will be the team to beat.

Aaron Cook is not playing. The Frost Heaves look terrible at best, defense is nonexistant and the offense is struggling to find an open shot. Down by 38 at the beginning of the 4th.

Nothing quite like going out and completely embarrassing yourselves in your first exhibition game.

Maybe they should have waited a little longer to try to get a team together.

I am hoping that this blowout was because it was our first game, and about half of the players are injured and stayed back in Barre. The couple of times I have seen the organization at the Aud this year, the coaching staff seems to be good. Time will tell.
Rainmen Blow Out the Ice Cold Frost Heaves - RAINMEN 128, FROST HEAVES 83 21 December 2009 Sports - Sports Blog 1 2 3 4 5
RAINMEN 128, FROST HEAVES 83 This wasn't a pretty game by any means for the Vermont Frost Heaves. Vermont struggled from the get-go as they could only manage to put up 13 points in the opening quarter and weren't able to make a run to get back into it. Vermont shot poorly in the first half (15 for 46) and by halftime, had a 29-point deficit to the Rainmen. Halifax on the other hand, had their offense rolling with their 57% shooting which helped them land their third straight preseason win.
The Rainmen had eight players in double figures, including Tony Bennett who led the Rainmen for the third straight game with 18 points.
Shaun "Mavs" Gillis and Bill McLean's Player of the Game: Eric Crookshank - 10 points (5-8 FG), 10 rebounds
Romy Aquino's Player of the Game: Shagari Alleyne - 8 points (4-7 FG), 14 rebounds, 1 assist and a whopping 6 blocks
Vermont Player of the Game: Matt Hall - 25 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists
Key Notes:
Vermont shot a miserable 36.3% from the fieldHalifax was 95% from the free throw line in the first half, making 19 of 20 attemptsDevon Norris got some extended run in the fourth quarter, and finished with 3 points and 2 reboundsRainmen finish 3-0 in the preseason Holiday ClassicWith the game well in hand, the crowd chanted "STRICK! STRICK! STRICK!" in the fourth quarter and their wish was granted as John Strickland played 5 minutes of the final quarterVermont's jerseys were a little confusing as the names on their jerseys did not correspond with the actual player wearing them (I'm sure Mavs and Bill had a great time with that!)In case you haven't noticed, Rainmen assistant coach, Shannon Hansen, has a striking resemblance to former Portland Trail Blazer, Brian Grant What is a Frost Heave? According to TheFreeDictionary.com: frost heave: n. New England , A section of ruptured pavement caused by the expansion of freezing water immediately under the road. Also called regionally frost boil.

Thats a very sad start. "half the players injured" after one team scrimmage is not a good sign either. Do we even know who is ON the team?

My understanding is that we will know who is on the team by Thursday. We need to bring back Benson. He is available.

Thats a very sad start. "half the players injured" after one team scrimmage is not a good sign either. Do we even know who is ON the team? It doesn't mean they're seriously injured. In the first scrimmage of any preseason, teams hold out a bunch of guys as a precaution, most of whom just have really minor things they would play through in any other game. The Heaves appeared to only play 8 guys out of the 17 in camp, and several of the best players didn't play. Plus, Halifax had played two games together before this one and it was Vermont's first. I wouldn't panic just yet.

I am not likely to panic, win or loose. I am just trying to figure the reasoning, when in a league such as the PBL, a stepping stone to bigger and better things..... that you would wait until a week or two before the first game to put your team together. There are exceptions, but usually the better players are selected first. Halifax has been playing games, as has Manchester and others. Our guys are still trying to remember each others name.
